Michaela Rylaarsdam, 31, was ordered to stand trial on a murder charge after Michael Dale, 55, became unresponsive during a paid fetish encounter on April 17, 2023. Dale had duct tape over his mouth and a plastic bag over his head when he was found unresponsive on the bedroom floor he rented. Rylaarsdam recorded parts of the encounter; eight short video clips were presented and police said the footage was intended for her OnlyFans site. Prosecutors seek second-degree murder while the defense calls it a tragic accident and says she tried to save him. Judge Daniel Link noted the lower preliminary hearing standard and questioned whether implied malice or involuntary manslaughter applies.
