Voting for Athlete of the Week covers performances from Aug. 25-30. Votes require avoidance of bots or other artificial methods; votes by email and those received after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted. Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday and winners are announced each Friday online and in print. Candidates can be nominated via highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com through 11 a.m. Monday, and submitted stats from coaches or team statisticians are reviewed. Nominees include Samantha Botell (Dublin flag football), Ellie Eisenhauer (Monte Vista flag football) and Katelyn Elliott (Carlmont cross country), each with highlighted game or race performances.
We prohibit the use of bots and any other artificial methods of voting. Suspicious activity could lead to the disqualification of candidates and a permanent suspension of the Athlete of the Week poll. No voting by email: Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted. For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
Ellie Eisenhauer, Monte Vista flag football: The freshman had seven tackles and a pass deflection in a 13-6 win over Alhambra. She added three tackles and two sacks in a 13-6 defeat to Dougherty Valley and two tackles, a sack, an interception and a touchdown in a 37-0 win over Hayward. Katelyn Elliott, Carlmont cross country: The junior had a wire-to-wire win at the ASICS Cool Breeze Invitational in Pomona, clocking a time of 17:27.1 at the three-mile race to breeze past the field.
