California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a wrong-way driver on I-80 in Fairfield Monday evening around 5:50 pm. Video footage showed an elderly female driver traveling within feet of oncoming traffic in the westbound express lane. CHP and Fairfield police officers coordinated to block traffic and safely pull over the vehicle. Officers determined the driver was confused and disoriented and reunited her with family. Authorities will review her driving status. The incident prompted CHP to encourage drivers 65 and older to enroll in the Age Well, Drive Smart senior driver education class, which covers safe driving techniques and self-assessment strategies for aging drivers.
