Vegetation fire erupts near Canada College

On Aug. 30 a car fire on Interstate 280 near Canada College ignited roughly 10 acres of vegetation on both sides of the freeway. CalFire's CZU San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit reported that by about 7 p.m. forward progress of the blaze had been stopped and evacuations were not expected. San Mateo County Fire deployed at least 15 engines, two water tenders, multiple fixed-wing aircraft, one helicopter, a firefighter hand crew and a dozer to fight the fire. No injuries were reported and no time estimate has been given for reopening the freeway.
