Two arrested in connection with San Mateo carjacking
"The victim told officers he was walking away from his parked and idling car when another car drove up and a man got out. The man then hopped into the victim's car, police said. The victim tried to pull the man out of the car, which led to a struggle. The man then drew a knife and lunged at the victim, according to police. The victim was not injured."
"A months-long investigation led to the identification of the primary suspect as a 25-year-old man and the driver of the other car as a 22-year-old man, both of Oakland. By then, the primary suspect was already in custody for unrelated charges, police said, adding that the crimes of carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon were added to his booking sheet. Members of the California National Guard helped police find the 22-year-old man, who was arrested Wednesday in Oakland."
Shortly before 5 a.m. on June 8, a man entered a parked, idling car on the 700 block of South Humboldt Street near 7th Avenue as the owner walked away. A struggle followed when the owner tried to remove the man, who then drew a knife and lunged; the owner was not injured. The man drove off in the victim's car and was followed by another vehicle. A months-long investigation identified a 25-year-old primary suspect and a 22-year-old driver, both from Oakland. The primary suspect was already in custody on unrelated charges and had carjacking and assault with a deadly weapon added to his booking. California National Guard members assisted in locating the 22-year-old, who was arrested and booked into San Mateo County jail.
