"We all in the community have supported that store for years and years and years,"
"And now, when the community needs the support of a very powerful company with deep pockets, they are just walking away, saying it's too expensive to fix the building."
"I bought my house 30 years ago in large part because of the walkability to the market,"
A Mill Valley Whole Foods at 414 Miller Ave. opened in 1992 and served as a community hub for more than 30 years. A rodent infestation and a roof remodel closed the store over the summer, and reopening plans were halted when Amazon/Whole Foods declined to fund additional repairs. The site remains fenced off with a "temporarily closed" sign and a "For Sale: Blueberries" advertisement on the front door. Residents launched a petition that has gathered over 2,000 signatures to urge a reopening. Locals say the permanent closure undermines neighborhood walkability and could depress nearby home values.
