'There is no easy fix': Study reveals attitudes about lack of trees in South L.A.
Briefly

Participants noted, "Our lack of trees is not an accident or coincidence. It is a result of historic patterns of discrimination, disenfranchisement and racist planning practices. It’s going to take a big sort of solution."
The study pointed out that tree cover disparity is stark, with certain areas, like Pacific Palisades, housing 18% of the city's canopy while fewer than 1% of residents live there.
With the city’s Urban Forestry Division budget slashed by over $1 million, progress toward addressing these inequities may be significantly hindered this year.
Community leaders emphasize that urban greening must be coordinated with tackling other serious issues such as homelessness and gentrification, highlighting the multifaceted nature of the problem.
