The Pacific Palisades neighborhood has officially reopened to residents after the devastating January 7 fire that destroyed over 6,800 properties and resulted in 12 fatalities. Residents can collect entry passes and visit their homes without escorts from the California Highway Patrol, although a curfew remains in place to safeguard properties. City Councilmember Traci Park highlighted the efforts of public safety teams, praising resident patience during the extended evacuation. Community members, like Quentin Fleming, expressed hope that this reopening will facilitate the healing process for affected residents as they assess their losses and begin recovery efforts.
I think this will mean relief that at least they [residents] can go back and see for themselves what's happened to the neighborhood. Now the process of healing can begin.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of our public safety, public works, and utilities partners... this is a watershed moment and I want to thank you all for your patience.
