"Reopening under New Ownership Soon!"
"We appreciate your patience during this brief transition period as we finalize our preparations. Please join us soon for our GRAND REOPENING to see what we've been working on!"
The Original Saugus Cafe announced Jan. 4 it would close after almost 140 years, but incoming owners plan to reopen the diner under the same name following renovations. A KHTS-FM report said the managing owners spoke on condition of anonymity until the ownership transition is finalized. Phone calls and emails to the cafe went unanswered and no official social media update had appeared after the closure notice. Diners visited for what was to be a final day, and a Facebook photo showed a sign reading "Reopening under New Ownership Soon!" The cafe at 25861 Railroad Ave. was founded in 1886 and hosted presidents and movie stars over its history.
