Southern California Edison (SCE) has indicated to state regulators that its equipment likely ignited the Hurst fire in Sylmar, which burned nearly 800 acres. The fire department tracked the source near a transmission tower where downed lines were found. While there were no injuries, two homes were damaged. Investigations are ongoing for the Eaton fire, with SCE examining various possibilities, including the potential involvement of its equipment. The Hurst fire started during a Santa Ana windstorm shortly after other fires in the area began.
The Los Angeles Fire Department is investigating the fire and has suggested SCE's equipment caused the Hurst fire... SCE believes its equipment may be associated with the ignition of the Hurst fire.
While we do not yet know what caused the Eaton wildfire, SCE is exploring every possibility in its investigation, including the possibility that SCE's equipment was involved.
The Hurst fire ignited shortly after 10 p.m. on Jan. 7 during a Santa Ana windstorm and several hours after the Palisades and Eaton fires first started.
