Luis Adrian Francisco Manzo, 28, was shot seven times by South San Francisco police on Dec. 8 after officers responded to a relative's report that he threatened self-harm and was armed with two knives. Officers encountered him in a hallway; after initially following instructions he allegedly pulled out a knife and walked toward officers, asking "them to kill him." One officer fired a stun gun and two officers then fired their guns as he advanced. He was taken to a trauma center in critical condition. Manzo faces assault on a peace officer and resisting charges with deadly-weapon enhancements and was denied bail. The San Mateo County District Attorney's Office is investigating whether the officers' use of force was justified.
