San Mateo County Sheriff Christina Corpus faces a likely firing amid corruption allegations and a growing budget shortfall. Corpus confronted Supervisor Noelia Corzo during a supervisors' meeting, complaining about receiving "dirty looks" and demanding respect. Corzo previously supported Corpus's 2022 campaign and asked whether county funds paid for Corpus's attorney; the county attorney said they did not. Supervisors assigned the county CFO to oversee the sheriff's budget after overspending, including a $74,000 conference room table. Corpus claimed the shortfall resulted from promised county payment for double overtime; County Executive Mike Callagy said evidence disproves that claim and shows Corpus helped authorize overtime.
