Lawyer McBride was convicted of murdering 29-year-old Rashanda Franklin on April 4, 2017, after waiting in a church parking lot where she had dropped off her children. McBride followed and harassed Franklin for weeks after she ended their two-year relationship. Franklin called 911 and drove away with her sons, then ages 9 and 5, while McBride pursued her and confronted her at an intersection, then shot and killed her. The children's screams were captured on the 911 recording. McBride was convicted of murder and related offenses including firing into an occupied vehicle, stalking and using a firearm to cause death. The court imposed a determinate term of 20 years and four months, to be followed by an indeterminate term of 75 years to life.
