"City officials said this site is designed to serve as a temporary stop for unsheltered adults. It's meant to be a stop for weeks or months. Shaunn Cartwright, founder of Unhoused Response Group, has been a fierce critic of this kind of temporary housing model. "Honestly, I thought it would take at least two weeks before it failed. I didn't think it would be less than a whole week," Cartwright said."
""Saying to people I want you to go live in our tent instead of your tent, is really like nonsensical to people," Cartwright said. The site has a total of 56 tents and offers meals and showers. But the Housing Department said, so far, less than a dozen people have moved in. "Because, most people said 'I don't want to go live in the tent city. I know you have hotel rooms. I want to go live in a hotel,' Cartwright said."

City housing officials moved the site's clients together to other emergency interim housing sites contracted by the city. Fewer than a dozen people had moved into the tent site, as many preferred hotel placements. Critics say the temporary tent model was rushed and unlikely to succeed, arguing that offering tents instead of hotel rooms undermines trust and acceptance among unhoused residents.
