A suspected drunk driver lost control of a 2021 Hyundai around 7:20 p.m. at the transition ramp from northbound Highway 87 to northbound Interstate 280 in San Jose, striking a man standing on the right shoulder. The pedestrian, believed to be in his early- to mid-40s, died at the scene. The driver, a 52-year-old San Jose man, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. The pedestrian’s name has not been released pending formal identification and next-of-kin notification by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner. Authorities say why the victim was walking on the connector remains under investigation and ask anyone with information to contact the CHP.
