San Jose police asks for public's help identifying suspect in beloved bakery assault
"It really goes to how we want to build strong relationships with our community. We always say the community are our eyes and ears and when it comes to crime. Once you report it, we want to work closely to make sure that we get it solved,"
"Violence of any kind, directed at anyone, undermines the sense of security that binds our neighborhood together."
"I've been coming to Peters Bakery for about 60 years,"
"This is horrible, it's a disgrace,"
Peters Bakery in San Jose is a long-standing community bakery operating for nearly 90 years. On Dec. 17, a man entered the bakery attempting to sell cleaning wipes; staff declined. Surveillance video shows the man becoming belligerent, destroying equipment, tackling a customer who tried to record him, and smashing the customer’s phone. San Jose police labeled the incident vandalism and assault and held a press conference requesting public help to identify the suspect. Customers expressed frustration and concern about safety. The bakery’s co-owner said such violence undermines neighborhood security.
