"Since the opening of the Bristol Hotel homeless shelter, the immediate neighborhood - previously quiet and family-oriented - has seen escalating public safety, sanitation and infrastructure problems,"
"I'm sharing this not as opposition to helping those in need, but because our community deserves accountability and safety alongside compassion."
"Whenever concerns arise near the Bristol Hotel, my office works closely with HomeFirst and city departments to address them,"
San Jose placed people swept from its largest homeless encampment into motels earlier this year, with the Bristol Hotel designated as a site for women and children. Since residents moved in August, RVs, syringes, and abandoned shopping carts have appeared near the motel. Wiring was cut from electrical access boxes, leaving four street lights dark. Four 311 reports were filed after the lights went out and tickets were later reopened when repairs were not completed. The city is working to repair the wires, removed a syringe and cart, and found no evidence linking the damage to motel residents. The Bristol Hotel has 47 rooms and is managed by nonprofit HomeFirst.
