A significant rockslide has closed a 4.5-mile stretch of Highway 140 near Yosemite National Park. The closure, which started on March 17, affects both lanes of the road and has created challenges for visitors trying to access this popular destination. Officials from Caltrans have urged motorists to avoid the area for safety reasons and seek alternative routes. This closure is expected to impact not only visitors but also the local economy in Mariposa County. Continued monitoring of the slide's stability is required before repairs can commence.
The closure has snarled plans for folks trying to access the popular national park in California's Sierra Nevada, with a 4.5-mile stretch of Highway 140 closed.
We are asking motorists to avoid this stretch of highway until the needed repairs are finished, to exercise patience and seek alternative routes, said Brian Hooker.
This accident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. on Monday, resulting in an immediate full closure of Highway 140 across both lanes.
Caltrans and CHP decided extra precautionary measures were needed to ensure safety by keeping the closures in place after additional movement with the slide.
