'Really scary': Students form human swastika on San Jose high school football field
"Our message to the community is clear: this was a disturbing and unacceptable act of antisemitism. Actions that target, demean, or threaten Jewish students have no place on our campuses,"
"Personally, I am horrified by this act. Professionally, I am confident and hopeful that our school community can learn from this moment and emerge stronger and more united."
"I was really scared, my identity feels threatened right now,"
"There are people at my school who think they can get away with this. And for me, that was just really, really scary to know."
Eight Branham High School students posed on the football field to form a human swastika in a photograph that circulated on social media accompanied by a 1939 antisemitic Adolf Hitler quote. The post was deleted and drew denunciations from local leaders. Principal Beth Silbergeld called the act disturbing and unacceptable and said actions that target Jewish students have no place on campus; she expressed horror and hope the community can learn and emerge stronger. The students were identified but names withheld under federal law. The incident was referred to San José police and will involve the ADL and local Jewish organizations. Jewish students reported fear and threatened identities.
