Raw oysters linked to norovirus outbreak in California. Here's what to know
Briefly

Imported raw oysters are believed to have caused dozens of cases of gastrointestinal illness in Southern California, health officials reported.
Noroviruses are the most common cause of acute stomach and intestinal infections in the United States, reports the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. It's also sometimes called stomach flu, viral gastroenteritis or the winter vomiting bug.
"Until the source is confirmed, consumers should be cautious before eating raw oysters due to the potential risk of foodborne illness," said Los Angeles County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis.
