Carol Gamble, a former mayor and founding member of Rancho Santa Margarita's city council, is ineligible to serve due to false nomination paperwork submitted for her candidacy.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer emphasized, "American democracy relies on the absolute integrity of the electoral process. Voters must have total confidence that every election is being carried out in a fair and unbiased manner."
Gamble was charged with a misdemeanor for making a false affidavit about witnessing signatures for her nomination, which she stated were collected under penalty of perjury.
Having served on the city council since 2000, Gamble's drop from the council race and subsequent plea indicates a serious breach of trust within local governance.
