His employment status as of Friday was not immediately clear."
William Daniel Eberly, 44, of Martinez, was charged with eight counts of forcible lewd acts against a child under 14 and three counts of lewd acts against a 15-year-old, with charging documents filed October 17. Eberly was arrested Oct. 22 and pleaded not guilty at his arraignment, and bail was set at $1,025,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 3. Eberly was employed as a correctional sergeant with the California Department of Corrections and Rehbilitation at the time of his arrest. Public records show a 2024 salary of over $117,000 plus roughly $70,000 in overtime. A 2020 CDCR release described him saving a 17-year-old after a car crash.
