Faatino Tauane, 23, was convicted of second-degree murder with a firearm enhancement for the Aug. 11, 2022 death of Cesar Arana, 21. The shooting occurred outside the 24 Hour Fitness in the 5900 block of Lone Tree Way in Brentwood at about 2 a.m. Arana was an innocent bystander when a fight broke out among several people. Three other people, including a minor, were shot and wounded and survived. Tauane and a then-17-year-old boy were identified as suspects and arrested. Jurors returned the verdict on Dec. 19. Tauane remains jailed without bail and sentencing is set for February.
