PG&E told fire crews they didn't need help shortly before Hayward home exploded
"Before the explosion, PG&E was contacted around 7:25 a.m. because a service line had been hit by a roadway repair company, according to the report. PG&E arrived in the area around 7:48 a.m. and found a gas leak in the service line for the East Lewelling house. Crews from the Alameda County Fire Department arrived around 7:51 a.m., but a PG&E worker told fire crews that they did not need help, according to the report."
"PG&E workers were able to stop the gas leak at approximately 8:18 a.m., but shortly after, they found gas at ground level near the home, the report said. The utility told NTSB investigators that crews on the scene knocked on the door of the home and the two houses on either side after finding the gas, but no one answered."
"A new preliminary report released Thursday by the National Transportation Safety Board reveals that PG&E reportedly told fire crews that they "did not need assistance" with a gas leak just an hour and a half before a massive explosion at a Hayward home. The explosion happened on the morning of Dec. 11, at 867 East Lewelling Blvd. in Hayward. Three residents and three PG&E employees were injured, according to the NTSB report, and at least two homes were damaged."
