A person was found 50 feet down an embankment near UC Santa Cruz and rescued after a cliff rescue just before 11 a.m. on Sunday. The incident occurred on Empire Grade, a scenic, windy road leading into the Santa Cruz Mountains and popular for strenuous bike rides. It is unknown whether the person was hiking or biking or who called the rescue. Multiple agencies responded, including Cal Fire, Santa Cruz Fire Department, Santa Cruz Police Department and California State Parks. Rescuers used a rope rescue system and a stokes basket to hoist the injured person out. A CALSTAR medical helicopter landed nearby and the person was transported to a local hospital.
