"FREMONT - A driver hit and killed a pedestrian over the weekend in Fremont, police said. Around 4:10 p.m. Saturday, officers spotted a vehicle speeding and driving recklessly on Osgood Road, south of Auto Mall Parkway, according to the Fremont Police Department. "A short time later, the driver ran a red light at the intersection of Osgood Road and South Grimmer Boulevard, collided with another vehicle, lost control and crossed onto the sidewalk, where he hit a pedestrian, police said. The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Alameda County Coroner's Bureau will release his identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified."
At about 4:10 p.m. Saturday, officers observed a vehicle speeding and driving recklessly on Osgood Road south of Auto Mall Parkway and attempted to stop it. The driver sped away; officers turned off emergency lights and lost sight of the vehicle in the interest of public safety. Shortly after, the driver ran a red light at Osgood Road and South Grimmer Boulevard, collided with another vehicle, lost control and crossed onto the sidewalk, striking a pedestrian. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead; the Alameda County Coroner's Bureau will release identity after confirmation and next-of-kin notification. The driver, identified as 28-year-old Antwone Spruill of Fremont, sustained minor injuries and was taken into custody on multiple traffic-related violations.
