In just two days, the Park Fire near Chico exploded into the 20th-biggest wildfire in recorded California history, overtaking the Marble Cone Fire in 1977. The fire, now at 178,090 acres, started with a man pushing a burning car into a ravine amid gusty winds and dry vegetation.
Over 1,600 firefighters battled the raging Park Fire that destroyed over 130 structures, including homes, in Butte and Tehama counties. The fire, challenging due to fuels, weather, and topography, remained zero-percent contained by Friday afternoon.
