Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle Returns Thursday, Jan. 8 - Streetsblog San Francisco
"Woodstock needs to have some additional maintenance work completed, so the current service disruption will take a bit longer than originally anticipated. At this time, it's expected that there will be no water shuttle service though Wednesday, Jan 7, with regular service anticipated to resume by Thursday, Jan 8. BayAlerts, a real-time text or email alert system, is the best and fastest way to hear about Water Shuttle service disruptions and to be notified of schedule changes and holidays."
"Coast Guard staff identified a few corrective measures that needed to be taken with regards to the hull. We are working with a local marine repair yard to complete those repairs," said Thomas Hall, a spokesperson for Water Emergency Transportation Authority, which operates the free service. As of Wednesday, January 7 (this morning), Hall confirmed they are "currently on track" to have the Oakland Alameda Water Shuttle back in operation Thursday/tomorrow."
Woodstock, the Oakland–Alameda Water Shuttle between Jack London Square and Bohol Circle Immigrant Park, faced an extended suspension after planned holiday painting and inspection. Coast Guard staff identified hull issues requiring corrective measures and WETA engaged a local marine repair yard to complete repairs. The disruption was expected through January 7 with regular service anticipated to resume January 8. BayAlerts is recommended for real-time notifications. The single 30-person vessel runs infrequently, frequently requires maintenance, and has carried over 100,000 riders, prompting calls for a second boat and fully funded dependable service.
