Night supervisor trapped, raped worker in exam room at California VA hospital, feds say
Briefly

Onofre Salas-Lozano, a former janitorial supervisor at the Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Hospital, was convicted for sexually assaulting an employee in July 2021. Prosecutors described how Salas-Lozano isolated the victim in an exam room and forcibly raped her, causing significant physical trauma. His conviction on multiple charges came after a trial where DNA evidence connected him to the crime despite his claims of consensual encounters. Following the verdict, a bench warrant was issued after he failed to appear for his sentencing hearing.
"(She) suffered traumatic tissue injury during the assault," prosecutors said.
Salas-Lozano was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse, sexual abuse by fear, and making false statements to a federal agent.
