"Despite federal interference, the governor maintains his commitment to protecting public health and achieving California's world leading climate agenda,"
"This incentive program will help continue the state's ZEV momentum, especially with the federal administration eliminating the federal EV tax credit and carpool lane access."
Governor Gavin Newsom proposed $200 million in one-time state funds for a point-of-sale rebate program for light-duty zero-emission vehicles to replace lost federal incentives. The proposal is part of a $348.9-billion state budget that also targets air pollution and wildfire responses amid a projected $3-billion deficit. Federal actions last year eliminated up to $7,500 EV tax credits and allowed federal authorization for California's carpool lane decal program to lapse. Automakers urged establishment of a $5,000 state rebate. The incentive aims to sustain ZEV adoption and protect public health despite federal policy changes.
