California Governor Gavin Newsom announced plans to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration following its deployment of the National Guard to manage protests against immigration raids in Los Angeles. Newsom criticized this federal action as unprecedented, illegal, and unconstitutional, arguing that there was no coordination with the state government. His comments highlight concerns over federal overreach, especially with respect to state rights and public safety protocols during emergencies. Newsom stressed that prior deployments of the National Guard were collaborative efforts and expressed frustration over what he described as misinformation spread by Trump regarding the situation.
Donald Trump has created the conditions you see on your TV tonight. He's exacerbated the conditions. He's, you know, lit the proverbial match. He's putting fuel on this fire.
Under Trump's executive order, it specifically notes...they had to coordinate with the governor of the state. They never coordinated with the governor of the state.
We have no problem, working collaboratively...But there's a protocol, there's a process. He didn't care about that. And the worst part, he completely lied.
It's Orwellian, simply lying to people, unconstitutional, illegal act, his mess. We're trying to clean it up.
