San Jose police are intensifying efforts to combat illegal fireworks as the Fourth of July approaches, resulting in over 3,000 pounds of dangerous fireworks dismantled through recent raids. These operations have involved undercover operations and have highlighted the seriousness of the explosive threat, shown by traditional fireworks being replaced with more volatile homemade explosives. The San Jose Fire Department is employing drones to surveil neighborhoods and quickly respond to illegal fireworks activity, enhancing community safety ahead of the holiday.
In the June 23rd operation that we conducted, the IED's that we located contained hundreds, if not thousands times, the explosive powder then legally allowed.
They will be in certain areas already. They will be launching if they see fireworks. They actually can move very quickly over neighborhoods and start to observe.
