
"A missing 85-year-old California woman was found by rescuers late Sunday night, thanks to her dog, Poncho. Sonora woman Barbara Crosby was reported missing earlier in the weekend. On Sunday, a Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office search and rescue team received a report of a possible sighting of Crosby in the remote East Bald Mountain Road area, around 5 miles from Sonora. During the search, numerous residents also reported seeing Crosby's dog, Poncho, in the area."
"On Sunday evening at around 9 p.m., as the search crew was making plans for Monday morning's search, a resident reported seeing Poncho run from the road into the woods, the sheriff's office said in a statement. Poncho was found hiding under some brush at the bottom of a steep embankment, around 70 feet from the road. Nearby, they found Crosby, asleep on the ground."
An 85-year-old Sonora resident, Barbara Crosby, was reported missing during the weekend. Search teams received a possible sighting in the remote East Bald Mountain Road area, about five miles from Sonora, and multiple residents reported seeing Crosby's dog, Poncho. On Sunday evening a resident saw Poncho run into the woods, leading rescuers to find him under brush at the bottom of a steep embankment. Crosby was located nearby, asleep on the ground, and was extracted using a rope system through rugged terrain and thick vegetation. She was transferred to a nearby hospital. Poncho ran off before he could be secured and remains missing.
