Missing Calif. hunter found alive after nearly 3 weeks in Sierra National Forest
"There were resources from across the Central Valley that came here,"
"I went over this thing, and it was scraping bottom. I looked up the tree in front of it, it said Diamond Road, jeep road. That means you'd better have a rock crawler. I don't have a rock crawler,"
"You either walk out or you're going to sit here and die."
Ron Dailey, 65, vanished during a mid-October solo hunting trip near Dinkey Creek east of Shaver Lake. He was found alive after nearly three weeks missing following an extensive multi-agency search across rugged Sierra National Forest terrain. Multiple counties, equipment, and hundreds of volunteers participated in the rescue effort. Dailey said his truck broke down on the Swamp Lake Trail at about 10,000 feet, and he used the vehicle as shelter while consuming about two weeks' worth of food. He later abandoned the truck, walked through rough terrain after losing his phone, and was rescued. Relatives described him as a seasoned hunter.
