A Mega Millions ticket sold in California matched five winning numbers, winning $419,367 but narrowly missed the $306 million jackpot.
The estimated jackpot for the next drawing is $331 million, with a cash option of around $153 million, as nobody won the grand prize.
More than 112,000 other tickets in California won prizes from $2 to $10,000 in the same drawing.
To win the Mega Millions jackpot, players must match all five white balls and the gold Mega Ball, with odds of 1 in 302,575,350.
