Nobody won the grand prize, which now rises to an estimated $62 million, with a cash option of approximately $31 million for the next drawing Tuesday, Sept. 24.
The winning California ticket was sold at a 7-Eleven convenience store on Lake Road in West Sacramento, managing to match five winning numbers but not the Mega Ball in the drawing Friday.
The Mega Millions jackpot has gone unclaimed since Sept. 10, when a Texas player hit the $810 million grand prize, and now sits at an impressive total.
To score a jackpot in the Mega Millions, a player must match all five white balls and the gold Mega Ball, but the odds of winning are steep at 1 in 302,575,350.
