A wind-whipped wildfire in Kern County quickly passed 1,000 acres, and an evacuation warning was issued. Within three hours, forward progress was stopped, and containment reached 50% by the next day.
Last week's wildfire burned 475 acres in Fresno County, while a previous fire in Inyo County destroyed four structures and led to evacuations.
