Man shot last month next to Oakland's Lake Merritt dies from wounds
"OAKLAND A man shot Sept. 27 on a Lake Merritt area cul-de-sac marred by violence in the past has died from his wounds, authorities said Monday. Isaiah Ireland, 24, who lived in another area of Oakland, died Friday night at a hospital where he had been since the shooting. The shooting happened about 3 a.m. Sept. 27 on a cul-de-sac in the 1300 block of Lakeshore Avenue next to Lake Merritt where a large group of people had gathered."
"Ireland got into a dispute with another person, who ended up shooting him, police said. Other people present drove Ireland to a hospital before police responded to the scene. The shooter fled before police arrived. A motive for the shooting has not been confirmed. No information about a suspect has been released. The killing is the 54th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time, police had investigated 70 homicides in the city."
