Costello Blackwell, 50, was sentenced to a total of 115-years-to-life in state prison in connection with separate murder and attempted murder cases dating to 2018. Blackwell was found guilty on Sept. 18, 2024, of second-degree murder in the killing of 47-year-old Daryl Huckaby in Vallejo. Co-defendant Daniel Anthony Street pleaded to second-degree murder on July 17, 2024, and was sentenced to state prison. Defense counsel sought a new trial alleging prosecutors prevented forensic inspection of an SUV, but Judge Jeffrey C. Kauffman denied the motion, finding no plausible impact on the jury's verdict. Family members described Huckaby's generosity and the emotional toll of his loss.
