An 8-year-old boy and a 39-year-old man tragically lost their lives after being swept out to sea at Cowell Ranch State Beach, Northern California. The incident occurred when the young boy was carried off the beach by a rip current, prompting the man to enter the water in an attempt to rescue him. Despite efforts from state parks lifeguards and other rescuers, both could not be revived and subsequently died at the hospital. National Weather Service had previously issued warnings of hazardous beach conditions in the area.
