"Sydney Levin, an Alameda County public defender, appeared on behalf of the suspect, 27-year-old Cedric Irving Jr., at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse. Meanwhile, Irving did not appear inside the physical courtroom but faced an Alameda County judge through the courtroom glass. He wore a green, padded vest and stood handcuffed with wide eyes. In the courtroom seats, more than a dozen supporters attended in support of Beam."
"The judge waived Irving's formal arraignment and set his status to no bail. Irving is expected to enter a plea on Dec. 16. In a Monday news conference, Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson said Irving is facing a murder charge, and if convicted, he could serve 50 years to life in prison. Beam was shot in the head at the sports complex at Laney College on Thursday afternoon, SFGATE previously reported."

John Beam was shot in the head at Laney College's sports complex on Thursday, taken to Highland Hospital and pronounced dead Friday. Irving was arrested Friday morning at the San Leandro BART station and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
