The collision ended in a misdemeanor arrest. Klemmer was transported to the hospital in serious condition before dying on Dec. 7 from complications of multiple injuries to include pelvic fracture, according to the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office."
"Coffee Roasting Co. Founder Teri Hope and the Los Gatan newspaper set up a GoFundMe to raise money for employees who were affected by the business's unplanned closure and support the coffee shop's reconstruction. The initial fundraising goal was set at $40,000, but has since increased to $52,500. As of press time that goal was surpassed, and supporters raised a little over $53,000."
"The generosity of the community has been deeply touching and meaningful but not surprising given the wonderful community of Los Gatos, Hope said. The espresso bar side of the shop reopened on Dec. 5. Hope said she wanted to reopen quickly to get as many employees back to work as possible and restart their cash flow so they could stay in business and provide a sense of normality for the business and the community."
Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Co. reopened its espresso bar after the cafe side was smashed by a speeding car on Thanksgiving night. The driver, 90-year-old Karl Horst Klemmer, was arrested for a misdemeanor, hospitalized in serious condition, and died Dec. 7 from complications including a pelvic fracture. Founder Teri Hope and the Los Gatan newspaper launched a GoFundMe that exceeded its revised $52,500 goal, raising just over $53,000 to support affected employees and reconstruction. Town employees cleared the espresso bar after a structural inspection. The cafe and retail bean departments were consolidated into the undamaged espresso bar while the cafe side remains sealed.
