'Long time coming': Busy Bay Area intersection converts to roundabout
Briefly

According to the Federal Highway Administration, one-quarter of traffic fatalities and one-half of all injuries happen at intersections. In comparison, roundabouts force drivers to move at slower speeds because of their yielding design that "reduce conflict points" and make them safer than intersections where drivers might rush the light.
The project will add bicycle lanes, crosswalks, and sidewalks to make the intersection safer and "increase livability," according to a Caltrans news release.
