Yellow 2291, a female black bear, has traveled over 50 miles back to populated suburbs despite being relocated to a remote habitat, raising questions about her motivations.
'It's a mystery to us,' said Fish and Wildlife spokesperson Tim Daly. 'You'd think the bears would be happier out in the woods, but their ability to find food sources in the suburbs might have something to do with it.'
The Mountains Recreation & Conservation Authority noted, 'Now here's something you don't see every day in the Santa Monica Mountains! We've received reports of a bear near the San Vicente Mountain Park and have seen security footage of it in the region.'
Officials are documenting Yellow 2291’s movements and comparing her situation to previous incidents where bears ventured into populated areas, highlighting the trend of wildlife adapting to suburban environments.
