Newsom called for slashing more than $32 billion in one-time and ongoing spending across various state departments and programs, including a 7.95% cut to state operations and the elimination of 10,000 vacant state worker positions.
Despite concerns about future pandemics, Newsom proposed cutting hundreds of millions of dollars from state and local public health spending, with reductions of $52.5 million from last year's budget and a further $300 million in ongoing spending reductions.
