Health Workers Are Rushing to Learn About Immigration Law in Case of ICE Raids | KQED
Briefly

Matt Lopas emphasizes the necessity for health care centers to train staff to verify warrants presented by immigration officers. Zenaida Aguilera of La Clínica de La Raza is leading training efforts across 31 clinics to ensure staff are prepared if ICE agents appear, amidst fears of intensified enforcement in California. With a large number of unauthorized residents, Aguilera advocates for patient rights awareness, expressing a desire for the focus to remain on patient care rather than on immigration-related training. Most clinics are increasing efforts to safeguard patient rights and access to care.
It's incredibly important that every health care center has somebody who is trained to be able to read those warrants and determine their validity, Lopas said.
We have about probably a thousand more staff... We would like to just do the work of caring for our patients rather than train our staff on what to do if there's an ICE official.
