California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the $298 billion budget, addressing a $47 billion deficit by including Democratic priorities like funding for homelessness, in-home supportive services, and affordable housing programs.
The budget also cuts state operations, delays a new health care worker minimum wage law, and reduces spending for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation by $750 million.
Despite some disagreements, negotiations between Gov. Newsom and legislative leaders resulted in a budget that prepares for the future and invests in foundational programs benefitting Californians.
