"It's never been easier to keep a digital driver's license and identification card in California," said Governor Gavin Newsom in a statement yesterday. "The state continues to work to offer convenience for those opting into the mobile driver's license program, now with the option of using Google Wallet."
California announced earlier this month that it will also allow Apple Wallet digital IDs soon. Those in the pilot will still have to carry their physical IDs.
Outside of 'select retail locations and TSA airports,' law enforcement, state government agencies, and businesses are not yet accepting digital IDs, according to the California DMV's site.
