Firefighters increase containment of Crozier Fire as spreading slows down overnight
Briefly

Cal Fire has contained 18% of the Crozier Fire, up from the 8% containment reported Saturday. The wildfire, which has been burning through forest land in El Dorado County since Wednesday, has reached 1,938 acres and remains within Cal Fire's established perimeter. Cal Fire said in its Sunday morning status update that there is still a significant amount of dead fuel available for burning in the area, posing concerns for firefighters.
Cal Fire operations section chief Jeff Loveless said that crews are working to prevent burning and hot fuel sources from rolling out over perimeter lines amid the steep terrain, which could threaten communities in northern parts of the county. Fire behavior was reported as moderate overnight, with slow-paced spreading and smoldering.
Aircraft are assisting fire crews in efforts to mitigate and put out the fire. Though Cal Fire has contended with challenging dry and hot weather this weekend, cooler weather predicted for the coming days is expected to improve the firefighting conditions.
Evacuation orders and warnings remain in place for several communities north of Placerville. No civilians and firefighters have been injured or killed in the Crozier Fire, according to Cal Fire's status update. No structures have been reported damaged.
