Ex-California judge gets life for shooting to death wife
"Sheryl had a great and generous heart, Ferguson said. And I do want to say to them my son and her brothers I wish God had taken me instead."
"God did not take Sheryl Ferguson's life, Jeff took Sheryl Ferguson's life, Hunt said. He intentionally took that gun, he pointed it at his wife and he pulled the trigger, the deputy DA said. I understand the family has forgiven the defendant. But Sheryl Ferguson doesn't really have a voice here."
Jeffrey Ferguson, 74, was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 35 years to life for the August 3, 2023 killing of his wife, Sheryl Ferguson. The fatal shooting occurred during a heated argument at the couple's Anaheim Hills home after Ferguson pulled a pistol from his ankle holster. The sentence was several years below the maximum 40-years-to-life he faced. Ferguson called the incident a horrific accident and expressed grief, while family members attended the hearing. Senior Deputy District Attorney Seton Hunt said Ferguson intentionally fired. Judge Eleanor J. Hunter denied a request for local incarceration and noted alcohol use with a concealed weapon and dishonesty while awaiting trial.
